Parlamentwatch GmbH

A portfolio project of BonVenture I GmbH & Co. KG: Democracy needs politically engaged citizens – people who are informed about what their elected representatives are doing. Parlamentwatch GmbH was set up in October 2006 to facilitate just that. Its website (abgeordnetenwatch.de) contains short profiles of all the MPs in the German Bundestag and the German members of the European Parliament, plus information on what committees they stand on and their voting records. Visitors to the site also have the chance to send questions to the MPs. All the questions and responses are published on the site. Contributions are checked by a team of moderators to ensure they adhere to the agreed codex and conform with the rules of fair dialogue. Parlamentwatch also operates another website, kandidatenwatch.de, a platform on which voters in regional and national elections can communicate directly with candidates in the run-up to the election. Parlamentwatch GmbH is run by political scientist Gregor Hackmack and web designer Boris Hekele. They took up an idea that emerged in Hamburg in 2004 from the work of Mehr Demokratie e.V., namely of using the Internet as a forum for lively democratic dialogue.
